About

I have a master degree (1981) and a PhD degree (1995), both in sociology, respectively from the University of Sofia and from the Institute of Sociology at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In my occupational life, I have balanced between social research (from 1982 at the Institute of Sociology), and teaching at universities (University of Blagoevgrad 1997-2004, Sofia University and New Bulgarian University 2008-2012). Being a Professor of Sociology since 2012, I am currently Director of the Institute for the Study of Societies and Knowledge at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. I have been visiting scholar at the universities of Budapest, Vienna, Mannheim, Bielefeld, München, Bamberg, Hamburg and Oslo. I am principal investigator of the project “Social disparities and regional differences in school-to-work transitions in Bulgaria” in partnership with the University of Basel 2012-15. I am partner in other cross-national projects. I have written two monographs: Gender and Stratification. Influence of gender on Stratification in Bulgaria after 1989 (2012) and Inequalities and Community Integration (2001). I am member of the Editorial Boards of the Journals “Sociological Problems” and “European Policy Analysis”. I act since 2006 as evaluator and independent observer for the European Commission.
