About
I have a master degree (1989) in political science from the University of Heidelberg and a PhD (1996) in sociology from the University of Bielefeld. In my occupational life, I concentrated for some years (1997-1999) on social research at the former Institute of Work and Technique (now Institute of Work and Qualification), where I worked on various comparative EU research projects on family tax systems and labour market policies. Most of the time I combined research and teaching at the Universities of Bielefeld (1990-1995) and Bremen (2000 to present). The topics I worked on included trade union development as well as comparative welfare state research (2011). At present I am coordinating several research projects, among them WP 8 multi-level governance of youth employment policy in NEGOTIATE, the impact of minimum wage regulations on collective bargaining in Austria, the Netherlands and Germany and labour market participation of German students. Most recently I have edited a book on ‘Governance of Welfare State Reform’ and contributed to several comparative books and articles on labour market reforms and its governance.
